The Tumour Biobank and Anatomical Pathologies Collections house a collection of nearly one million samples, including cancerous tissue from patients affected by cancer and other diseases. The Tumour Biobank is taking part in a study funded by the European Union on microarrays and paraffin-embedded histological samples.

This bank is closely linked to the Catalonian Network of Tumour Biobanks (XBTC), which was created in 2006 within the framework of the Oncology Master Plan for Catalonia, the director of which is Dr Pedro L. Fernández. Tumour samples from the biobank are added to the eleven tumour collections pertaining to the main hospitals in Catalonia participating in this network.

The scope and dimension of this Tumour Biobank and Anatomical Pathologies Collections illustrate a firm resolve to target improved diagnoses and treatment of cancer-related diseases.
